WAYNE MCGREGOR The energetic artistic director of Random Dance is passionate about his craft and thrives on constructive criticism from the press, as Kevin Berry finds out in The Stage.
Wayne McGregor is in Leeds at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance when we meet. The artistic director of Random Dance apologises for feeling tired. He has jet lag, he explains, because he has just flown back to Britain from a three-week tour of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. When we arranged this interview he was in Finland.
So, how was the tour of the former Soviet republics? "Brilliant," he exclaims. "We were one of the first Western companies to be in any of those countries. Two thousand people in a theatre and some were sitting in the aisles. They were so excited."
