Don't come dancing here, you're too young
By Ben Hoyle for The Times

TELEVISION audiences have grown accustomed to sportsmen, soap stars and even newsreaders slipping into slinky sequined outfits for a spot of ballroom dancing.

But when a couple from Lancashire tried to follow their example they were thrown out of their local old people’s club for being too young.

I heard of something similar to this happening in a tap class. A pupil of mine had been attending an over 50's class for years (she was late 30's) when she was suddenly asked to stop coming as they were tightening up the age range!

It is really sad when this happens and shows that unfortunately there are some very close-minded individuals in dance and leisure management. I think as long as the student who is outside the age range/remit of the class and understands that the class will be planned towards that then there should be no problem. E.g I have some students who attend classes below their ability for additional exercise. They understand that the class will be at a slower and less advanced place and never make anyone feel uncomfortable for going slower - happy students and happy teacher!
