Why choose Swan Lake? The name guarantees sales, but David Nixon doesn't seem to want anything else to do with it. His new production for Northern Ballet Theatre abuses the music and throws out the story. Even the swan maidens seem to be there on sufferance.

NBT’s Swan Lake

...the company has a new version, by David Nixon, premiered last weekend at the Grand Theatre, Leeds, and we are treated to the sight of boisterous young men performing wheelie tricks on bicycles, followed by a game of American football. NBT likes its Swan Lakes to be different.
