Londoners might be interested to know that there is an interview with Carlos Acosta in Metro today. Metro can be picked up free at Rail and underground stations in London but unfortunately is not available on line.

Thanks Cassandra. Unfortunately I missed it. Was there are any interesting news in the article? Especially on his future plans with the Royal Ballet?

Sorry Stewart, there was nothing very up to date. The 60 second interview section in Metro only skims the surface, but he was a pleasant change from their usual diet of soap actors and deejay's.

I am a huge Acosta fan. Question: Did he come to Royal Ballet directly via Houston?

Hi trina! My impression is that the Royal Ballet followed Houston directly as you describe it.
That's the way I understood the interview/discussion with Carlos at The Ballet Association.

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited March 29, 2002).]

I'm also a Carlos Acosta fan and first saw him dance with the Royal Ballet in 1991. The occasion was a gala for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Acosta danced a jazz number in a bright red sequined jacket (I still have the photographs) I'm surprised he doesn't mention it in the interview as it must have been his first UK appearance, perhaps he thought that as it wasn't a classical debut it didn't count.
[This message has been edited by Cassandra (edited April 02, 2002).]

Not just any body - How the fit and fabulous stay that way: Carlos Acosta, 30
Carlos Acosta, 30, is a principal guest artist with the Royal Ballet and gets his kicks dancing
by Portia Colwell for The Times

Did you always dream of becoming a ballet dancer?
No, no, no. When I was a child I wanted to be a footballer.

So what happened?
When I was nine years old my father forced me to go to ballet school as he saw it as a way out of the poor neighbourhood I grew up in, on the outskirts of Havana. I am the youngest of 11 children and he was determined to make something of me.
