Press Release
The Place Choreodrome 21 July – 14 September 2003
'It's often said that space is the single most valuable commodity for a dance maker. That may be true, but in Choreodrome, The Place offers more than just a studio. Choreodrome is a laboratory without expectations, a protected time when you can concentrate on process and maybe do things a completely different way. It's also a close community, where fellow artists can support each other and where, if you want, you can share with other participants what you discover.'
Richard Alston, Artistic Director, The Place
Are you a professional dance artist looking for R&D space and time?
Do you want to collaborate with international artists and other art forms but can’t get the funding?
In 2002 almost four hundred choreographers, dancers and other artists from the UK and overseas participated in Choreodrome creating a vibrant creative summer community. The project is open to professional choreographers working in a contemporary idiom from mature artists to recent graduates. Studio space, video facilities including edit suite, audio visual studio, library and the Robin Howard Dance Theatre are available to dance makers to undertake research without the pressure to present a performance outcome. Proposals which include overseas artists and cross-art collaborations are particularly welcome.
In future Choreodrome will happen every 2 years – all the more reason to apply this year! The Place is developing a forum for artists to develop their ideas which complements Choreodrome. More details will follow later in 2003.
Guidelines available from Tuesday 28 January
Deadline for completed applications
Wednesday 5 March, 6pm.
