In her second year as an Associate Artist at the Royal Opera House, choreographer Cathy Marston will present her second evening of dance in the Linbury Studio Theatre.

Featuring dancers of The Royal Ballet, the programme will include revivals of two of her most successful works for the Clore Studio Upstairs - TRACES and UNSTRUNG TENSION and a world premiere of a new work BROKEN FICTION.

Set to an evocative score by Yann Tierson, TRACES is an exploration of time and relationships: the past, present and future as shifting dimensions of a multiple reality. UNSTRUNG TENSION is Marston's dynamic interpretation for five dancers of Carl Vine's cello solo, INNER WORLD, played live on stage by Matthew Barley.
Completing the programme will be a new work, BROKEN FICTION, to music by Dave Maric played live by Between the Notes.

Union Too | Chance to Dance

A showcase performance of pieces by Union Too and Chance to Dance students.
Union Too, the company's own youth group aged 14-24 years, get the opportunity to train and create performance pieces with choreographers and dancers from Union.
The ROH's Chance to Dance has for 12 years offered children in Lambeth, Hammersmith & Fulham and Southwark training in classical ballet as part of a scholarship programme.

URBAN CLASSICS II, a collection of Union's most influential works, is a must-see night of stunning dance. It illustrates their philosophy to the max, mixing b-boying with Brazilian martial art, capoeira, the grace of ballet with the razzamatazz of jazz dance. Added to this are stunning visuals and earth-driven funk merging hip hop, Missy Elliot, Talvin Singh and sitar funk to the rich traditions of the Indian and African continents.

Union's trademark mixing and layering of cultural styles is executed with the energy and edginess of the street, appealing to young people and dance aficionados alike.

PERMANENT REVOLUTION V2R is a driving funk and soul production returning to London fresh from a national tour.
Union, alongside media artists Thomas Grey and Derek Richards, plus international choreographers Doug Elkins, Vincent Mantsoe and Bawren Tavaziva create a world of live dance, performance, sound, computer graphics and video which blurs the edges between the real and the virtual.

Mavin Khoo Dance



12 | 13 | 14 | 15 November at 8pm

With his parallel training in classical ballet and bharata natyam, Mavin Khoo is one of London's most unique and fascinating dance artists.
His IMAGES IN VARNAM was first seen in the Clore Studio Upstairs in 2001 as part of the Back Garden Project; he also created LET ME... Outside In 2003 with dancers of The Royal Ballet.

PARALLEL PASSIONS is his first visit to the Linbury Studio Theatre and offers an evening of new and recent work choreographed and danced by Khoo and his company: OBSESSING IN LINE, ASHTAPADI, IMAGES IN VARNAM and GEMINI, a solo for Khoo by Michael Beare.
Completing the programme will be a short documentary on the 'bilingual' body, exploring the meeting point between western and Indian classicism.

work in different stages of development by The Royal Ballet, ranging from first attempts by new choreographers to first sketches in new directions by established choreographers within the Company.
