JAVIER DE FRUTOS SUMMER 2003 UPDATE Javier De Frutos heads off to Oporto this July to set up a new 50 minute
ballet, "Wade in the Water", on Companhia Instavel.
He will be in residency for 5 weeks working with the company's 6 dancers.
"Wade in the Water" is set to a collection of American Spiritual songs.
Costumes and décor have been designed by Javier.
The premiere is in September in Coimbra, Portugal.
During that time, Elizabeth Old will be heading to Wellington, New Zealand
to start re staging "The Celebrated Soubrette" for the Royal New Zealand
Ballet.
Javier originally created The Celebrated Soubrette for Rambert Dance Company
in the year 2000.
This revival will have a brand new lighting design by Australian John
Rayment.
Rayment's lighting has featured in companies all over the world as well as
the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic
Games.
The premiere takes place in February 2004.
The 29th of June the Festival de la Nouvelle Danse in Uzes, France will be
presenting "But The Virgin Was More Available", This work was commissioned
last year by The British Council and The Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv
and was created on a cast of 8 male dancers to the entire Act II of
Puccini's Tosca.
Heure d'ete film productions has been commissioned to do a 25 minute film
on dance which includes the opening 5 minutes of "But The Virgin Was More
Available". The filming, directed by Catherine Maximoff, will take place on
location in the south of France in July.
It will be presented by the European TV Chanel ARTE and in movie theatres
and Festivals at the end of the year.
In the meantime, Javier is finalizing research on two upcoming productions:
"Elsa Canasta" for 14 dancers at Rambert Dance Company also premiering this
September and featuring a breathtaking set design by Jean Marc Puissant.
The other is a new 30 minute ballet for ABCdance company in Austria set to
Korngold?s Violin Concerto in D Major. Designs are also by Jean Marc
Puissant.
