Us Boys We Multitask by Donald Hutera for The Times
IN THE late 1980s Ralf Ralf — aka Jonathan and Barnaby Stone — scored an international hit with The Summit, a mock-political debate cannily conducted through body language and gibberish. Jonathan subsequently continued acting, composing and directing, while brother Barnaby was busy performing or building the sets he designed for the choreographer Yolande Snaith.
Now, after ten years, the cultish Stones are returning as a fraternal double-act. What they get up to in their comeback vehicle, the category-tweaking Us Boys We Multitask, links dance, music, theatre and cabaret. They move, sometimes in unison, vocalise and play instruments. Each adopts a semblance of character in a loose scenario about cockeyed corporate types, deposited in a variety of locations conjured up in a bare space painted baked orange. Most importantly, in their undemanding, amiably weird way, the pair entertain.
