Former Ballet chief named UPAF president
Christine Harris, former executive director for The Milwaukee Ballet Co., has been named president of the United Performing Arts Fund, the nonprofit organization that provides primary operating support to 22 member groups. From The Business Journal Milwaukee

Harris succeeds Julie Tolan, who was named vice president of university advancement at Marquette University in September.

Harris served as executive director of the Milwaukee Ballet from 1997 through its 2001-02 season and is credited with leading the company to economic stability. She was hired specifically to help turn around the financially ailing Ballet, promising the board to do so in five years when she was hired in 1997.

She told the board last December that she wanted to broaden her career into other community nonprofit activities.

Arts groups choose their status in new UPAF structure

By TOM STRINI
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Wild Space Dance Company, the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, City Ballet Theatre and the Boulevard Ensemble had a choice: Become members of the United Performing Arts Fund or opt for "affiliate" status.

Their decisions came out at a UPAF board meeting Thursday. City Ballet and Boulevard will be affiliates; Wild Space and the Chamber Orchestra will be members. All four were on the cusp of a new $150,000 budget requirement for member status. Milwaukee Dance Theatre, with a budget far below the $150,000 minimum, had no choice.

2005 campaign exceeds $10 million for local arts groups
by PIET LEVY for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Exceeding the $10.15 million goal set for the year, UPAF raised its largest sum of donations in the organization's 39-year history. It's a nearly 3% increase from the 2004 total of $9.88 million, and more than the previous record, when $10.1 million was raised in 2002.
