Do you think companies are becoming more creative in their selections of performance space, due to current economic problems?
While there's no doubt that the economy is hurting everyone (except, perhaps, those Americans who are about to get a huge tax cut), I'm wondering how much it's affecting otherwise sound companies. I know of several organizations that are cutting back on projects and expenses, but the only one I know that's actually folding is doing so due to artistic and administrative ineptitude; had they been well-managed and had their artistic standards been higher, they'd have drawn audiences.
So i guess my question is this: does anyone have any hard data as the effect of the current economy on arts companies?
