All the more reason why they should be appreciated at a leisurely pace <I>before</I> the scheduled work time.

Why not? Would let the person see many varied opinions and views. Varied - but yet all pretty much of a theme.

Uhm, Jeff...said person states they are nervous, perhaps the invitation could also be prefaced with a little introduction about your witty and curmudgeony self.....before the first introduction is read. <P>With that in mind, however, this has been a great discussion, and it could be a great ice breaker.<BR>

Well, my inclination at this point is to summarize it all for him.

If someone thinks <I>I</I> am a curmudgeon, wait'll they work with a 25-year veteran of IA local #1 (Manhattan), #2 (Chicago), or #22 (Washington, DC).<P>I've decided not to invite the young man to join us (although I'll certainly welcome him should he find us on his own -- he might: he seems to have a lot of initiative); I'm summarizing much of what we said and I'll post a link to it (for your comments) when it's farther along.<P>Thanks to everyone who contributed, even those who (ahem) called me names.<BR><p>[This message has been edited by salzberg (edited April 24, 2001).]

Salzberg, I think it has turned into a very good piece. The tone I feel is stern and to the point in places where it needs to be i.e. safety, but also uses humour well so as not to scare the living daylights out of your interns. The comments from other CD contributors also back it up well and will help to put your points across as not being just from you but from the point of view of most professionals.<P>It is the sort of document your students will hopefully keep and recycle in 20 years time for their interns.

Good job, Salzberg.... it reads well, not very curmudgeonly-ish at all.<P>I am flattered, honored,..... titillated that you would use something I said for this article.<P>Seriously - it reads well.
