Eeek! It's a mouse!

A prop guy and I were having a discussion yesterday. And we have a question:How many versions of Nutcracker are there that use a remote-controled mouse?

I for one, have never seen that. The mice are usually dancers - often children in mousy costumes, scurrying around - frightening old ladies like me.......right out of their pointe shoes.

I've seen a mouse outfit put over a radio-controlled toy car... The person controlling it had lots of fun... too much fun.

I've seen it twice so far. The most effective version was where it is the first mouse out..sorta the small size of what's to come. His eyes lit up, too!

If there aren't any little children mice where ARE the kids? I guess I see part of the reason the Nutcracker continues on year after year as being because of the participatory element of it - the guests, mice, and other roles community adults or children are cast in.

Yes, the first mouse...before the mice become large and Clara/Marie/Maria gets small.Me personally? I've always thought everything in that nightmare and the subsequent sweet dream, should appear in the first act/party scene....everything.

My cat is totally against a remote mouse - she likes them warm and tender.......EEEKKK!!!

Show your cat one of those 6 foot Balachine mice. That'll cure that taste. Tyme2edit, I don't recall a mechanical mouse there....That's cool. A mouse AND a magic bed...who could ask for more thrills! And spills!I know pittsburgh has a jet mouse. And last year he was upgraded to all weather radials...he moves!

That's what I like about the Peninsula Ballet Theatre's* production (chor. Carlos Carvajal). At one point in the party scene, the maid runs in, frightened, because she's spotted a mouse. Fritz organizes leads a posse offstage, returns holding a dead mouse by the tail, and chases the girls with it.

*That's the peninsula south of San Francisco.
