OK. I'll try. It's complicated (which doesn't mean I think you won't understand it; it means that <I>I</I> don't completely understand it).<P>"dB" stands for "decibel". It's a relative term; "dB SPL" is the measure of sound pressure level ("loudness"). It's a logrhythmic scale, which means that every time you add 3 dB, you're doubling the volume.<P>As I recall, the figure of 100 db SPL, measured at the back of the house for 5 minutes, was approximately the same level as listening to a jackhammer from 200 feet away for half an hour.<P> <P>------------------<BR>=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=<BR>Jeffrey E.
