Ballet Folklorico to perform uno, dos, tres times by Carole Beers for King County Journal
You don't so much watch, as feel a performance by Ballet Folklorico Mexico.
The troupe puts viewers right in the midst of the action from several ages and cultural traditions of Mexico.
Folklorico's moves, tunes and rhythms -- from a heated tap-dance through fiery Aztec rituals to lyrical waltzes played by live musicians -- seem to reverberate right through your body.
And the troupe's bright costume colors, styles and textures -- velvets, silks, leather and tall feathers -- create extraordinary afterimages against ordinary theater backdrops.
It must be noted that this troupe differs from Mexico's official folkdance troupe, Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, founded by Amalia Hernandez.
