At Los Angeles Ballet there was a dancer named Steven Eades who had been some kind of a championship high school football quarterback in Kansas or somewhere. He became a pretty decent dancer and ended up as a soloist.

There was a Dance Magazine article many years ago about ABT principal Ted Kivitt, who spent a day as a guest working out with an NFL team. I think it was the Miami Dolphins, since he was from Florida. Kivitt was able to leg-press more weight than the football players, and during a practice scrimmage, when given the ball to run, he was so agile the football guys couldn't catch him.

When I was a little girl I remember seeing Lynn Swann on Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood. Rather than visiting football practice, Mr. Rogers visited ballet class. I remember Lynn explaining what "pas de deux" meant, and Mr. Rogers repeating "pas de deux - dance for two." I think that theme even carried over to the Neighborhood of Make Believe.
