Stories Told Physically, One of Them About Physics

By JENNIFER DUNNING
The New ork Times
May 1, 2004

There was also a sense of community in this plotless piece, a physical response, perhaps, to its rich and roiling Shostakovich score. Dancers tend to relate — or be given chances to relate — to one another very little these days, even in duets.

ZviDance: One Big Happy Dancing Family

By SUSAN YUNG
The Village Voice
April 30, 2004

In the company’s well-paced premiere, Easy For You to Say (to Shostakovich), pulsing energy is released through limbs pulled from the torso in opposing tension. Dancers sing and talk only to be quieted by others; a ballet phrase appears, adding textural interest.

Footnotes: Is This a Great Big Happy Dancing Family, or a Mobile Trap?

By SUSAN YNG
The Village Voice
May 25, 2004

ZviDance's 10 members are onstage together so much that they register as a big family, content to perform Zvi Gotheiner's fluid movement.

To Fall or Not To Fall
Zvi Gotheiner's Territories

by DEBORAH JOWITT
the Village Voice

However, the Israeli-born Gotheiner solves a captive audience's problem with surprising changes of pace in what amounts to a string of vignettes stirred together with dancing, and a very broadly interpreted theme.

Zvi Gotheiner's Program Performed at Dance Theater Workshop
by CLAUDIA LA ROCCO for the New York Times

It's perhaps no coincidence that Zvi Gotheiner's latest program, which opened Wednesday night at Dance Theater Workshop, pairs a premiere about weddings with one about craziness.

First, the craziness. In "12A (The Thirteenth Floor)," Mr. Gotheiner plays with our superstitions and fears, revealing the rituals we use to keep them at bay as their own form of madness.

Rites of Passage
by DEBORAH JOWITT for the Village Voice
published: March 29, 2007

It is not only Kraus's ingenious methods for generating movement that inform Gotheiner's Gertrud (the last event of the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Festival), but the shapes and lines in her artwork, projected behind the dancers. Various of Gotheiner's 12 expert performers assume Kraus's role without impersonating her (except for a beguiling few moments when small Kuan Hui Chew walks stiffly around, hunched and puffing on an invisible cigarette while she gives terse comments to attentive young people). Lessons function importantly in the structure of Gertrud.
