To concide with the new series of Dr Who, the BBC website has various goodies:
- there are trailers from the new series: 45-minute stand-alone episodes as opposed to the traditional format of a serial with 30-mimute episodes and a single story.
- more interesting are the "Doctor Who Classic Clips", more than 50 from the mi-60s onwards with the various actors playing the Dr and their side-kicks; Sarah is still the prettiest in my book.
Apart from the delight of revisiting old episodes there is the fascination of viewing changes to social mores; for instance the first Dr refers to "Red Indian savages", surely no script editor would allow that these days. Then of course, there is the evolution of the mini-skirt.
The biggest difference, of course, is the "not very special" special effects. And yes, the Daleks do have sink plungers from a local hardware store.
The clip "How thrilling/Death Slide" has a resume of many past monsters and villains. Good to know that English is spoken throughout the Universe. click here for the Dr Who index page
There are also clips (some different) here
plus enough material to keep diehard fans off the streets for a long time.
