JAZZY CINDERELLA STORY OPENS 65th ANNIVERSARY SEASON

(Winnipeg, Manitoba; April 20, 2004) - Today Chief Operating Officer Judy Murphy announced the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's 65th Anniversary season will open in October with the world premiere of Val Caniparoli's A Cinderella Story. An unprecedented first for ballet, as the production will have a glamorous fifties flare and will feature Ron Paley's Big Band performing his original jazz orchestration from the Richard Rodgers songbook. The 2004/2005 season will be also highlighted by the return of Agnes de Mille's energetic Rodeo in March and Marius Petipa's classic The Sleeping Beauty in May. The company's annual four-performance series in Winnipeg will also include the family favourite, Nutcracker, performed during the holiday season. more

I finally found when I originally posted my thoughts on a Jazzy Cindertale! The very least the Winnipeg Ballet can do is send me free tickets along with a 1st class airplane ticket to Winnipeg! :)

Wow... Rarely do we see a dancer burn bridges so publicly...

RWB is hosting a reunion of past dancers this weekend. I understand it promises to be a blast. Maybe we'll get a report from Lucy who is there right now visiting with former fellow company members.

This subscriber only article (rumour) appears to suggest that Prima Ballerina Evelyn Hart is about to hang up her tutu? She has been with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet since 1976. Perhaps it is time to pursue another career in dance. Miss Hart was a silent actress extraordinaire. Can anyone confirm if the article is true?

News on the pending retirement of Evelyn Hart is heating up. Click here for a more definitive story.

“The ballerina told CBC Radio she feels that she's somehow overstayed her welcome at the ballet company.”
