From Boston Ballet:

quote:
Holmes Staging of "Le Corsaire" on PBS Wins Emmy Award
Boston Ballet Artistic Director Anna-Marie Holmes' staging of "Le Corsaire"
for American Ballet Theatre (ABT) has been awarded an Emmy for "Outstanding
Classical Music-Dance Program." The program premiered on the PBS series
Great Performances in December 1999. Holmes staged "Le Corsaire" for ABT
last summer, but initially set this version of the ballet for Boston Ballet
in 1998 as "The Pirate." "Le Corsaire" tells the story of Conrad, the
heroic pirate, who seeks to rescue Medora from slavery. Boston audiences
will see another example of Holmes' work in person this fall when she stages
Boston Ballet's premiere production of "La Bayadère."

I've only seen it once on video, but I enjoyed it a lot. They don't take the plot very seriously and there is a lot of banter from the cast and Kevin McKenzie trying to remember the tortuous plot (and frequently failing) in the pre-performance discussion and the intervals. This didn't please everyone, but I don't really see how you can take the plot of 'The Corsaire' seriously. The programme deserves to win a prize in my view.
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited September 10, 2000).]

A story from the Boston Herald:

quote:
Holmes tackles staging another full-length classic, ``La Bayadere,'' for Boston Ballet next month. Her stagings of the full-length Russian classics have been her hallmark during her tenure with Boston Ballet.

More
