Early news of BRB 2012-13 rep

Included in this week's programme for Birmingham Royal Ballet's annual Evening of Music and Dance at the city's Symphony Hall were brief details of the company's 2012-13 Birmingham seasons.

Programmes and Birmingham dates are:

26-29 Sep Lyric Pieces/Take Five (Bintley)/Grosse Fuge (Van Manen)
2-6 Oct Swan Lake
21 Nov-9 Dec Cinderella
15-23 Feb Aladdin
4-8 Jun Coppélia
19-22 Jun Giselle

The highlight is clearly the long-awaited arrival from Japan of Bintley's "Aladdin". But a year dominated by full-length ballets (even of they are best sellers) and with only one triple bill, does not exactly set the pulses racing.

Early family performances on Fridays

There is some good news for families from BRB for 2012-3.

Following the popularity of 6.30pm "The Nutcracker" performances in 2011, there will be 6.30pm Friday evening performances in Birmingham of "Cinderella" (30 Nov 2012), "Aladdin" (22 Feb 2013), "Coppélia" (7 June 2013) and "Giselle" (21 June 2013).

Performances of "Swan Lake" at The Lowry, Salford (Wed 19–Sat 22 September 2012) are also confirmed and on sale.

Just for clarity, Jessica Lang's new work for BRB premieres in Birmingham in May 2012 as part of the city's International Dance Festival. The September performances are not the first. And while David Bintley's "Aladdin" is having its UK premiere, it was, of course, originally created for the National Ballet of Japan.
