Since audition season is over and company websites don't seem to list height requirements for dancers, is there a way to research where the tall dancers are finding jobs? Traditionally, I am familiar with PNB, Lines and NYCB as having this reputation. But do trends change from year to year and are there any companies who have lately been added to this list? Also, if a school that is associated with a company is very interested in inviting an older student (age 16) to train with them, but she doesn't fit the typical height of its company, should it be interpreted that there is no chance the company would be interested in her and that the school is only interested in training her as a student or could it possibly be an indication that the company might consider her after she is finished training with their school?

Hello, shedances, and welcome to Critical Dance. You pose difficult questions. Yes, the companies you mentioned (especially Lines) have tall dancers in their ranks. Just because a major school trains a dancer, this does not mean that they will automatically hire that student. They may refer the student to a company/school where they feel the student may have a better chance to flourish (personal experience with one of my former students). I wish I had more information for you on companies who hire tall dancers. Perhaps someone else will see this post who has this knowledge and contribute... Best of luck to you.
