The 'West End Girls' techno-pop duo have composed a ballet score based on a Hans Christian Andersen tale? Will de Frutos create the new ballet on Ivan Putrov? This is going to be interesting.

As the premiere draws closer the Guardian has an informative article about Xavier de Frutos:

Last night I went to the first performance of The Most Incredible Thing which was designated a preview. A stage announcement was made before the curtain went up reminding the audience that it was a preview they were watching and therefore the performance would stop if anything was seen not to be working. That is unusual as although dance previews are rare in the UK they are common in theatre productions and I have yet to go to one where we were warned of a halt in proceedings if anything was less than perfect.

As it was a preview I shan’t review it except to say the audience loved it, it is very much a multi media event and the Pet Shop Boys have written some very danceable music. After giving us last year the most awful ballet in the history of the universe, Xavier de Frutos is clearly back on considerable form with clever, witty choreography spiced up with borrowings from Balanchine and Nijinska here and there.

Oh, and Ivan Putrov made a very attractive jack-booted villain: I enjoyed his performance very much but doubt if Monica Mason will be gracing the audience on the first night.
