Finally, someone has given this woman the job she deserves. Never have I met someone who needed to be an artisitic director more than Ms. Gregory. Her depth of knowledge is amazing and it was going to waste. She is whip-smart too. Hopefully she will be well supported by her board of directors.

OK my mistake. I read the announcement too fast. She's the artistic ADVISOR, which is better than nothing. At least some of the knowledge locked up in her head go to good use. Actually, maybe better use. The artistic director job has much less to do with training and inspiration of new dancers than it is about vision and fundraising.

Cynthia Gregory was definitely an amazing dancer and if I could figure out how to upload images here, I found a stunning photo of her that I wanted to share. I have noticed that retired ballerina's seldom really "retire" completely because the next generation of young dancers need to learn from them. I would have loved to see her perform in person :D

I saw her in the 1980's. I can't even remember what it was, but she made an impression and clueless little me. Then I saw her speak several years ago and she was so articulate and knowledgeable that I couldn't believe she didn't have a job. All that knowledge going to waste. So I'm glad it finally will be used.
