Paris Opera Ballet has opened the 2010-11 sseason with a trio of classic Roland Petit works: "Le Rendez-vous," "Le Loup" and "Le Jeune Homme et la Mort." Clement Crisp reviews the performance in the Financial Times.

"La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet," the documentary by Frederick Wiseman, will be shown in the LA area Saturday evening on KCET Public Television.

It's appears to be "KVCR" (San Bernardino or Riverside?), next to LA, at 7pm and it's a three hour broadcast.

Suggestions for getting tickets.

I already posted this under the "Bolshoi -- Paris -- May 2011" topic, but I would also like to put it here as it might be helpful to anyone trying to get tickets to any POB performance. This is based on several years of experience. If anyone has any questions please post them here and if anyone has further suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

"It can be a very involved process trying to get ballet tickets at the Opera so my suggestion is to try to get anything available from {its]internet site as soon as possible, if possible. Their prices are the best, but availability from day to day is highly variable. Keep trying.

"Ticket services like "Fnac" might have internet tickets at a markup price along with other internet services. You can usually get tickets from a Paris ticket agent at the last minute, but they can cost several times the normal price [and are probably the most expensive (and best quality) seats].

"You can also go to the opera house ticket office about an hour before a performance and stand in line for about an hour for somewhat limited view seats, if they are available. For about $10 they can be a pretty good deal."

In the New York Times, Roslyn Sulcas reviews Nureyev's "Swan Lake" at the Opera Bastille and a mixed bill of 20th century works at the Palais Garnier, including Balanchine's "Apollo," Trisha Brown's "O Zlozony/O Composite" and Pina Bausch's "Le Sacre de Printemps."

Further to Buddy's post concerning tickets for the Bolshoi at the Opera Garnier, I was recently sent this link:

Check out the mark up on these tickets, something like ten times the face value. Shame on The Independent for giving opportunities to a bunch of ticket touts. No wonder tickets in Paris are so difficult to obtain now.
