Change of Judge at New York International Ballet Competition
Julio Bocca, scheduled to return to NYIBC as a member of the jury, has been
unexpectedly detained in Moscow, where he was also a judge at the Moscow
Ballet Competition. Executive Director Ilona Copen is pleased to announce
that Mr. Mauricio Wainrot, also a returnee to NYIBC, has graciously agreed
to replace Mr. Bocca.
Representing Argentina, Mr. Wainrot is currently Artistic Director of
Ballet Contemporaneo del Teatro San Martin of Buenos Aires.

Mauricio Wainrot, born in Buenos Aires, has been Artistic Director of
Ballet Contemporaneo del Teatro of Buenos Aires since 1999.
Trained in Buenos Aires, Wainrot danced with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet,
Teatro Municipal Ballet of Rio de Janeiro, Ballet de Camara of Caracas, and
several other groups. He was Artistic Director of Les Ballets Jazz de
Montreal and Grupo de Danza Contemporanea in Argentina. As a choreographer,
he created 11 ballets for The Royal Ballet of Flanders, Belgium, where he
was Permanent Guest Choreographer from 1991 to 2004. The prolific
Wainrot's works are in the repertories of 46 companies around the world, including
the English National Ballet, Bat Dor Dance Company of Israel, Les Ballets
Jazz de Montreal (where he was also Artistic Director), Royal Ballet of
Flanders, Hubbard Street Dance/Chicago, and Julio Bocca and Ballet Argentino,
and many other companies.
The New York International Ballet Competition will take place June 24-28 at
the Rose Theater, Lincoln Center. 48 dancers from 17 countries around
the world have been preparing for two weeks for one of the most important
events of their careers, which will culminate on June 28th with the
announcement of the medalists and a Gala Performance.
