Scott Simon's essay on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday:

Quote:
Our 5-year-old daughter is a ballet jock. Elise keeps her pink leotard and ballet slippers on after class, when she has an ice cream cone — two scoops and extra sprinkles when she's with me, some diet for a ballerina — and often wears her dance clothes to bed.

A very nice story, Jeffrey. Thank you. Starts out sounding a bit like Angelina Ballerina, herself, but I guess she is typical of so many young children.

This is how I was able to get through to the article.

I've fixed the link so that it should work now.

This passage also resonated with me:

Quote:
But Ms. Kramer, who loves her, too, teaches truths a father finds hard to utter, like, "No, that's not good enough, do it again." It reminds me that children not only need good parents, but teachers, coaches and friends.

In other words, "It takes a village".

This is one that I like. It is from one father's response to the article.

He writes about his daughter....

"She grew out of ballet, picked up, excelled in, and then dropped the viola. Boys came along. Career aspirations. College. This month, she's trying to quit smoking. But there is a definate style and grace about that young woman that is unmistakeable in all that she does. You can see it when she enters a room."
