Here's an article on the upcoming season. There has been little coverage of Villela's firing of his long-time resident choreographer, Jimmy Gamonet. I hope this doesn't mean we will be seeing Villela do chor, as it is not his strong suit.
http://www.herald.com/content/today/entertainment/arts/digdocs/018290.htm
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited July 22, 2000).]

Do tell us more about the parting of the ways of Mr. Villella and Mr. Gamonet. (Does he still use his full name, Jimmy Gamonet de los Heros? A product of Ballet de Caracas, yes?) I recall some immoderate statements by Mr. Villella during the course of a post-performance discussion here in Seattle the last time MCB was here; something to the effect that Mr. Gamonet being one of the leading choreographic lights of the day. Must have been quite a falling out. Bad press for one (or more) of his works, perhaps? Most intriguing that MCB will be doing Les Patineurs; would that PNB would do the same....
[This message has been edited by Francis Timlin (edited July 14, 2000).]

I do enjoy an occasional performance of Les Patineurs. It's not "The Dream," but neither is Stars & Stripes or Western Symphony equivalent to Apollo or Serenade; but we may enjoy them all the same....

Jimmy Gamonet de los heros is originally from Peru, not from Cuba.
For more of Mr. Gamonet go here
http://www.herald.com/content/today/opinion/columnists/balmaseda/digdocs/052850.htm

Francis,
For what I read, Mr. Gamonet's works have always been highly praise, and more so his resent works for MCB. During his 14 years affiliation with Mr. Villella and the Miami City Ballet, Mr. Gamonet has been responsible for the creation of half the company’s repertory, and therefore, also what the company is today. It should be obvious to all of us that the elimination of his position has nothing to do with neither his performance nor his product, instead, I believe this is the result of a much egotistic, confused, and insecure mind (minds) within the organization.
