Sascha Radetsky, a soloist with ABT, has written an excellent column for the latest US edition of Newsweek.

Quote:
My business attire is a pair of tights. All right, there it is. I wear makeup onstage, and some of my colleagues are gay. Can we move on now? Can we leave behind the tired male-ballet-dancer stigma—that ballet is not a masculine pursuit—in order to move toward an appreciation of the athleticism and artistry involved in this line of work?

So glad someone posted this. Sascha is a former classmate of mine (from way way way back) and is a lovely human being inside and out. I love that he wrote this article for Newsweek -- he's very well spoken and has achieved much in his dancing career to date.

He writes well. I hope he has the opportunity to do more of it.

As I have been repeating for many years, what we really need is a constant supply of dancers, choreographers and affiliated artists who offer mainstream America the requisite insight and interest in the artistic "product" that is ballet. Otherwise, we are out of sight and out of consciousness. (Usually out of money, too!}
