West Side Story

Please don't let anyone do a remake of West Side Story! Even if they managed to make it less dated and corny, I can't imagine the dancing being any better than what the original cast did. WSS-phile that I am, I suppose I'll have to get the DVD.

Lyric carries off swagger, joy of 'West Side Story'

The Lyric's cast of 19 may not have rockets in its pockets, but it has enough cool to recommend it. This is especially so in collaborations with Atlanta Ballet and Theatrical Outfit, teamwork that for once gives this often fusty company some swagger in its step.

Atlanta Ballet's Joe Roesner has done the choreography; eight colleagues handle the footwork. Theatrical Outfit Managing Director Kate Warner has directed, giving this 1957 classic about a love match lost in gang warfare a tension and fluidity missing in such past Lyric productions as "Camelot" and "Mame," "Carousel" and "Man of La Mancha."
