Founded in 2000 by Kacy and Craig Keys, Praxis Project seeks to encourage artistic collaboration, as well as build the Los Angeles dance community by offering low cost summer workshops focused on modern dance, and by providing an excellent performance opportunity for Los Angeles dancers. Position Open: Wardrobe Mistress/Master

The Grand Rapids Ballet Company, Michigan’s only professional ballet company, requires an experienced and self-motivated wardrobe mistress/master for their 2006-2007 season. Applicant must have professional experience managing a costume shop, and strong costume construction skills for dance. The Grand Rapids Ballet Company presents three main stage productions, along with touring and local performances totaling over 60 performances a year. The position is responsible for maintenance of all existing costumes, construction of new costumes, adherence towards the costume budget, hiring of seamstresses and stitchers. Design opportunities are also possible. Positive, upbeat attitude and strong organizational skills are a must. Position is full time and reports to artistic director. Competitive salary, dependent on experience.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Overseeing wardrobe and maintenance; organize and manage workroom
2. Wardrobe department budget control
3. Cutting and draping/patterning and stitching
4. Costume coordination for all lecture/demonstrations and outreach appearances.
5. Costuming supervision for special appearances and out of town tours.
6. Costuming supervision for all outside rentals of GRB productions.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate all fittings
2. Teach proper costume care and costume handling during performances to all cast members.
3. Takes responsibility for cleaning and mending all GRBC costumes.
4. Takes responsibility for keeping an inventory of GRBC costumes.
5. Oversees volunteers associated with costuming.
6. Work with the designer to purchase all supplies and materials relative to GRBC costumes.
7. Coordinate transportation of all costumes in coordination with GRBC Production Stage Manager and /or Technical Director.
8. Maintain proper budget, receipts and invoices pertaining to costume materials and construction.

BALAM Balinese American Dance Theater is looking for a stage manager for its new york season in march.

this position is paid.

The stage manager will coordinate prop and set movements, run the
dress rehearsal, run backstage operations during the show, assist with
strike, and coordinate between cast, crew, and house during
performances. We are looking for someone with good independent initiative and least a little experience.

The dates are evenings Thursday March 15-Sunday March 18
for tech,dress, and performances at Dance New Amsterdam on Chambers
St., as well as an afternoon block on Tuesday March 13 for a press
preview event at Ailey studios midtown, all day Sunday March 25th for
a load in, tech, and performance at the Hindu temple in Queens, and
morning through afternoon at Lehman College on Tuesday March 20 for a
load in, tech, and short performance. If you could do all but one or
two of the daytimes (lehman college, ailey studios), we might still be
able to work something out between you and someone else.

Costume Design Competition

You will be creating original artwork to be used as inspiration for the design of a world premiere ballet with choreography by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch entitled A Doll's House with music by István Márta. Your original artwork as well as the final design of the ballet is anime (Japanese animation). Your original artwork will include character images of 16 individual characters - eight men and eight women. In addition to each character, please include the names you intend to give each character and please detail any special powers they possess. All original artwork must be received by July 1, 2007. The winning artwork will be displayed prior to and during the performances of the ballet — June 5-15, 2008 at one or more locations in Houston, Texas. The artist whose original artwork is chosen as the winner will receive a check for $2,500. In addition the winner will receive round trip economy class airfare to Houston as well as premium hotel accommodations in Houston. The winner will be acknowledged at the world premiere of the ballet June 5, 2008.
