Review in The Scotsman on this touring production:

Like the seven brothers of the Pontipee family, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a great hunk of a musical, rough hewn and direct. In some ways, it is so obvious that it really shouldn’t work at all. Except that this cast has enough gutsy energy to rise above the problems.

I saw this production a few week ago at Richmond and I agree largely with this review. I was quite disappointedwith the big dance numbers but i suppose after the amazing sequences in the film it is a hard act to follow. The whole production seemed to lack that extra oomph. Shona Lindsay as Millie was undoubtedly the star.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
By Richard Edmonds for The Stage

This is a lively, entertaining show, heavily stacked with a corny feelgood element, bursting with brash and bouncy designer hillbillies careering along with the required amounts of superficial emotion from one sassy or sentimental number to the next.

But although this ironic showbiz parody of love in Oregon during the 1850s frequently degenerates into low camp, there is still room - under Maurice Lane’s direction - to applaud the fresh talents of a young, good-looking company who sing and dance their socks off.

Theatre: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
by MARK FISHER for the Scotland Herald

Listeners to Radio 2 recently voted this Broadway hit, with songs by Johnny Mercer and Gene de Paul, as their third-favourite musical.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
by THOM DIBDIN for the Edinburgh Evening News

There is no great level of sophistication about either the plot or the music of this adaptation of the MGM film. Nor indeed, of the Pontipee brothers themselves - who display a sense of intellect of which George Bush would be proud.

Yet this is one of those productions which creeps in under your skin and gets you going by the sheer force of its personality alone.

Seven brides for seven brothers
by MARTIN GRAY for the Scotsman

BLESS those beautiful brides, and bless whoever brought them to Scotland, along with those manly brothers. This is an old-fashioned show - there's none of your hi-tech roller skating back-from-the dead Frank Sinatras here - but it's still a thrilling piece of theatre.

In the Boston Globe, Louise Kennedy reviews a production of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" presented at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly MA:
Quote:
Brides, brothers, even the rivals get into old-fashioned hootenanny
....
[Choreographer Patti] Colombo deploys the brides, brothers, rival suitors, and disgruntled townsfolk with an expert eye for pattern and variety. The ensemble numbers combine the vigor and rustic beauty of square dancing with astonishing moments of gymnastic grace; the simpler duets sweep every couple into a light hearted swoon of romance.
