This thread is for announcing summer (and other) intensives and workshops.

"Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporania;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Roumania." -- Dorothy Parker

STUDIO MAESTRO SUMMER INTENSIVE

Located near Lincoln Center on a tree-lined block at #48 West 68th Street
between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, this two-year-old venture is
quickly becoming a favorite of serious young ballet students as well as
adult ballet and jazz students. Director Rose Caiola is justifiably proud of
her bright, airy studios and immaculate facilities, not to mention her
excellent faculty. There is a ballet program for ages 8-20 with classes
throughout the academic year and a summer intensive, both taught by former
New York City Ballet dancer Deborah Wingert and former Paris Opera Ballet
dancer Francois Perron. New or visiting students will be asked to take a
placement class. Groups from out of town are welcome and special sessions
may be arranged. Open int/adv ballet classes are taught at 10 a.m. Monday
through Friday by Johann Renvall, and the legendary Luigi teaches open jazz
classes. Workshops are held throughout the year, taught by members of the
New York City Ballet and other major companies. Studios are available for
rentals for coaching and rehearsals. Call (212) 787-1178 for more
information. Studio Maestro , 48 West 68th St.New York, New York 10023

DANCEEAST

Invitation to attend Rural Retreat 2008
Future Directors and Creative Producers for Ballet and Dance

DanceEast is one of England's leading dance organisations. Since 2002, DanceEast has been producing the internationally respected Rural Retreats. These think tanks have been bringing together leaders from the world of ballet and dance to look at key issues facing in the art form and how we move forward into the 21st century. These Retreats have been the first global opportunity for Directors to come together with their peers to share their issues and concerns in an environment that is conducive to openly discuss and debate in a rural setting.

DanceEast's next Rural Retreat will take place 11, 12, 13, 14 January 2008 at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, England. Brocket Hall is 22 miles from central London and is easily accessible by air, rail or road. The Retreat will commence at 5pm on Friday 11 January and conclude at 1pm on Monday 14th January.

This next Retreat is especially for individuals who aspire to direct a Ballet or Contemporary Dance Company, particularly middle to large scale. It will be restricted to 26 individuals from around the globe and is by invitation only.

This is an intensive 3-day think tank that is facilitated by two professionals and we will also have guest speakers from the worlds of art and business. Prior to attending the Retreat, you will be interviewed and asked to complete a questionnaire to ensure that your issues and concerns are addressed at the Retreat.

DanceEast will cover the cost of accommodation and meals but we do ask that participants and/or their companies cover their own travel costs if at all possible.

If you would like to be considered to attend the Rural Retreat for Future Directors and Creative Producers, please send an email or postal letter explaining why you would like to attend together with your CV to DanceEast no later than 5 January 2007. This will be treated in the strictest confidence. If you are selected to attend the Retreat, Dance East will contact your director to discuss freeing you up for these specific days if required.

We really would like to have a strong international mix of male and female future leaders at this Retreat. Please don't be shy about putting yourself forward. This is a unique opportunity to find out more about what leadership really is all about and a wonderful opportunity to network with colleagues from around the globe.

This three-day workshop for students, professional dancers and teachers
explores a kinesthetic approach to movement and dance training by the
internationally recognized master teacher and educator, David Howard.

CURRICULUM:
David Howard’s unique methodology is founded in a scientific approach to
movement involving kinetics and anatomical principles. His teaching techniques are
as revealing and applicable to the teaching of emerging young dancers and
adult beginners as to established professionals. David Howard approaches the
acquisition of ballet technique through the dynamics of movement, musicality and
energy patterns. His kinesthetic approach eliminates much of the tension, and
resulting injury, associated with technique as it is traditionally taught. This
year’s workshop includes material on:
Posture and Placement
Adagio
Pirouettes
Allegro
Pointe Work
Progression of Class Work
Music/Rhythm Selection
The Adult Beginner
Therapeutic Exercise
Enchainment at all Levels           Â
Â
Due to limited space, it is advisable to register as soon as possible!

David Howard, teacher and coach, is one of the most famous ballet teachers of
our day. His ability to teach all levels of ballet is a skill honed over
years of association with some of the best companies, schools and highest profiled
dancers. His performance background spans the spectrum from radio shows and
commercials as a child performer to soloist in England’s Royal Ballet,
performances with the National Ballet of Canada, appearances at London’s famed
Palladium Theatre and in the West End production of Bob Fosse’s “Little Me.â€
