The historic Pantages Theatre, extensively renovated and upgraded in the early 1980s, was shut down without notice by the Tacoma Fire Department for code violations apparently stemming from deferred maintenance projects. One casualty was the Tacoma City Ballet's Halloween program, "Dracula." TCB will be filing a claim for lost revenue against the city-managed facility. Jason Gayey reports in the Tacoma News Tribune:

The Pantages has now been reopened, but not without a substantial loss for Tacoma City Ballet. To add to the insult, both the City (which owns the facility) and Broadway Center (the operating entity) disclaim any responsibility. Jen Graves reports in the Tacoma News Tribune:

The City of Tacoma has issued a request for proposals for program management and facilities operations of its theatres, the Pantages, the Rialto and Theatre on the Square. Proposals are due January 10, 2006. The organization currently responsible for the management and operation of these facilities, the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, is expected to bid. In the Tacoma News Tribune, Jen Graves discusses the possibilities offered by some competing bidders:
