I didn't see anything this year. In my effort to clear my brain and eyes, I did not see a single holiday performance. I'm hoping this will pique my appetite for holiday shows next year and I'll be able to appreciate them with fresh eyes.

As a little "web extra" for Critical Dance readers, here's a pic of my mouse collection -- hah!

What a cute story! As Poohtunia said at NYCB's Nut a couple weeks ago (or was that three weeks ago -- it's all a blur), it's all about the kids. And the one element I missed at SFB last Wednesday (or was it two weeks ago, MEH -- I can't remember. Or maybe that was PNB's Nut in Seattle? Trina, jog my memory!), was the kids in the audience. Not hearing their excitement and joy -- boys and girls alike -- just wasn't the same. It's difficult to imagine the adults around me jumping with joy at the party scene.

And, LMCtech, that's a good strategy -- I finally got myself to skip all Nuts last season. Ths year, I found myself looking forward to flying up and down the coast and from one coast to the other to catch various productions, even if I ended up nodding off Balanchine's production in NYC...

Very nice piece, ME. Like so many other kids, my introduction to ballet was SFB's Nutcracker. I remember being impressed by the very mechanical look of Lew Christensen's dancing doll choreography and the growing Christmas tree (did it actually grow much taller in those days?). But the most vivid memory I have of the first performance I saw was liking the look of a pink tights-clad leg on pointe.

As for watching the party scene over and over, I've kept seeing the complete ballet over and over just because I think the music of the party scene is so great.
