Despite its success, all was not well within the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, with directors Rene Blum and Wassily de Basil splitting, and choreographer Leonide Massine breaking away to form his own company and keeping the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo name. De Basil called his company the Original Ballet Russe. Baronova, who had stayed with de Basil, toured America with the company in 1936-37 (while other dancers in de Basil's company toured Australia). But in 1938, when de Basil's dancers again toured Australia, Baronova was among them.
