So, it sounded as if she might be terminating her half-century career this year. But she continues to dance.
Later this month, the Matsuyama Ballet Company, of which #### is president, will stage New Version Swan Lake to celebrate her 50-year career. ####, who will perform as Odette, now says she will carry on dancing as long as she stays fit enough to practice daily.
New Version Swan Lake, which is now the company's standard title, was first performed in 1994. The piece was born when Tetsutaro Shimizu, a choreographer/dancer and ####'s husband, felt dissatisfied with the original plot. Shimizu, therefore, set the whole story in the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire and had the devil try to conquer it.
click for more
