I am surprised that the opening night's R and J was so bad. I hope that the Kirov hasn't become complacent after the rave reviews in June.

Nadine Meisner enjoys the Kirov's 'Romeo and Juliet' more than most. The fans over on ballet.co.uk found it a most disappointing experience to a man (or woman). Meisner points out, 'Russian Romeo and Juliets are bigger, darker, heavier – Eisenstein crossed with Botticelli – and that goes for the acting, too. The craggy posturings need getting used to.'<P> <A HREF="http://www.independent.co.uk/enjoyment/Theatre/Dance/Reviews/2000-08/kirov020800.shtml" TARGET=_blank>http://www.independent.co.uk/enjoyment/Theatre/Dance/Reviews/2000-08/kirov020800.shtml</A>
