I have an essay question to complete.<P>Critically discuss ways in which a theoretical perspective of your own choice may illuminate an understanding of dance. Apply your discussion to your own experience of dance genres and styles or works you have encountered during the course of your studies. <P>I want to look at how music inspires choregraphers and their choreography. Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved some sources articles books to read etc.

Jill-are you looking at contemporary/modern choreographers, ballet, what? For ballet, the best book I can think are: "Balanchine" by Bernard Taper, and "Balanchine's Tchaikovsky, Interviews with George Balanchine" by Simon Volkov, in which he (Bal.) talks about not only Tchaikovsky's music, but many other composers artistic topics as well. Very illuminating. For contemporary arists, try Connie Kreemer's "Further Steps: Fifteen Modern Dance Choreographers"; interviews of various modern choreography, processes, life and bodies of work. Good stuff!
