National Dance Week events for Pennsylvania

April 26th and 27thRegional Director, Janice Brougher, working in conjunction with the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, will be producing the annual Kickline on the steps of the state capitol on Sunday, April 27th at 12:00 noon for the fifth year. Holly Evans, a Harrisburg native and present member of the famed Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, will once again act as the Regional Spokesperson and will be the presenting instructor for the Kickline which follow the event and will be held at Strawberry Square in Harrisburg, PA. The workshops offer classes for beginner through advanced levels in ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop.

Plans for the Capitol Kickline to be held in honor of NDW 2003 have been finalized as follows: 11:45 am - arrive at the Capitol steps, 3rd & State Streets, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; 12:00 pm - Participate in a Jazz stretch/warm-up and learn choreography for Kickline routine; 12:30 pm - Kickline Presentation and Photo Shoot; 12:45 pm - preregistered Workshop dancers depart for Strawberry Square; 1:00 pm - Lunch at Strawberry Square; 1:30 pm - Workshops for Beginners/Intermediate and Advanced levels. Kickline open to public; workshops closed to public until 3:45 when observers are welcome to view work learned by attendants.

Immaculata University Dance Company, under the direction of the Immaculata University Department of Physical Education and Exercise Science, will host the First Annual Chester County Dance Festival in celebration of National Dance Week. The event will give a wonderful opportunity for dancers to share their talents and support the dance community of Chester County. The performance is open to the public on Saturday, April 26, 2003, at 7:00 pm at the Alumnae Hall on Immaculata University campus. A donation of $5.00 is requested.

As the communities surrounding Hatboro & Horsham Pennsylvania prepare to celebrate spring, Center Stage Dance Academy will be taking dance to the next level by hosting a National Dance Week celebration for those communities. In honor of NDW, Center Stage Dance Academy will come alive with activities for dancers and non-dancers of all ages. The celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 3,2003 and will include free dance workshops throughout the day, performances, food, local dignitaries, DJs and a celebrity or two. There will be prizes and giveaways to lucky attendees. Elizabeth Tolis, Artistic Director of Center Stage Dance Academy is committed to making this celebration an event to remember and the beginning of a great annual community event.

After returning from a one-month creation and performance residency in Tokyo, Japan , Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza invite you to join this welcome home performance event for Attack Theatre.

With a unique Nightcap flair, Okaerinasai (welcome back) is a combination plate of activities including a sardonic slide show, video from the Japanese premiere and live performance excerpts of “No-to:memory fades”. This cultural collaboration was created and performed by Attack Theatre and the popular Japanese artists’ collective Nibroll for the 7th Next Wave Dance Festival in Tokyo.

Top off your Friday night activities with a quick Nightcap - Celebrate National Dance Week (April 25 – May 4) in Attack Theatre’s downtown studio for some drinks, dance and delicious tales from abroad (the food was amazing). Also, check out the provocative video installation by artist Ana Kelly in our storefront window.
