Definitely, definitely see Joanna Berman in "Sea Pictures." More comments later.

Is Neal Stulberg a recent hire as a conductor in the post-deCouteau era?

Opening night casting comments:
Fanfare - I'd skip it...
A Garden - No virtuosic roles here, so just sit back and enjoy.
Magrittomania - Roman Rykine brings a very sardonic Russian attitude to the primary role. Watch also for the short male pdt, especially Guennadi Nedviguine and Joan Boada.
Symphony in Three Movements - Lorena Feijoo will be a delight to watch. Her partner Joan Boada may be iffy depending on a number of factors. Lucia Lacarra and Yuri Possokhov will exude class. But watch for the fireworks by Kristin Long and Guennadi Nedviguine.
Belinda? MEHunt? RalphSF? LMCTech?
[This message has been edited by Azlan (edited August 09, 2001).]

This is like sports handicapping--fun.
I see this casting list and think "lucky London" all around. But Gonzalo Garcia, if he hasn't yet lost his youthful enthusiasm, will be a blast in the third movement of "Prism."
I can't wait to hear how the British react to "Fanfare," whether a different sensibility will respond favorably to it, and if the company will perform the work with more commitment if they sense the audience is liking it. But it does provide lots of chances to see Elizabeth Miner, and she's got to get promoted--soon!
Lucia Lacarra is hyper-flexible and great in Bugaku, I think. Yeah, Joanna is the ultimate sympathetic dancer for the lead in Sea Pictures. I also think a lot of people will like Kristin Long, with her sturdy attack and exceptional epaulement, in first movement Prism.
I can't wait to hear how the British react to "Sandpaper Ballet," because by all accounts the French just didn't get it. I also like Julie Diana in Symphony in Three.
I hate to sound like a biased cheerleader here, but really several dancers are going to shine bright no matter which night's cast you catch. That's the core strength of this company.

Belinda, we saw 'Sandpaper Ballet' two years ago when SFB were at Sadler's Wells and it went down very well. The UK loves Mark Morris and visa versa, so no real surprise.
On the other hand now it's the Royal Opera House. On balance, the English do have a sense of humour, so I think no probs this time either.

Fanfare! Don't skip it. As it was done for the Coronation of QE2 and it's Robbins and it's a fantastic score! I find it very charming and more importantly -entertaining. It's not perfect, so what, so little is. :-)
Joanna Berman? See her in everything she does.
Tina LeBlanc and Ben in Night, sublime.Don't miss it.
I'm sorry Muriel M. and Ben aren't doing Magrittomania- my personal favorites in a wonderful piece.
Julie Diana? Love her, in anything she does.
But really, this company's weakness is it has so many talented dancers and a great rep. If I were in London - and I wish I were-I know I'd end up going every night.
Cheers!

I have to confess I'm back-sliding - only down for 4 at the moment. But.....
