Mr. Boal’s history with New York City Ballet’s production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ goes back to 1975, when he was a student at the School of American Ballet. He will retire from NYCB and SAB in June and will start his new position the following month. Details of his retirement will be announced at a later date.
The role of Herr Drosselmeier in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ was originated by Michael Arshansky on February 2, 1954. The role has been performed by many dancers over the years, and has also been performed by both George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins in the NYCB production.
