Statement from the Arts Council of England on the death of choreographer Jeremy James.
"The Council and staff of the Arts Council were terribly sorry to hear the news of Jeremy James' death, particularly the staff in the dance department, many of whom had known him and worked with him for many years, not just as funders, but as colleagues and friends. He was an outstandingly talented choreographer and dancer, and we feel privileged to have been able to support his work. His death comes at a time when his career was blossoming and he was much in demand from a number of the major dance companies in this country.
The Arts Council's dance department has funded Jeremy James' company through project funds over the last five years. The Company applied for National Touring funds earlier this year and were asked to provide by mid-May more detail, including a realistic budget, for submission to the June meeting of the Dance Advisory Panel.
His death was a great loss to the dance world and he will be missed by many people, not just those who knew him, but all those whose lives were touched by his artistry and experienced his talent, eccentricity and humour."
Arts Council of England 14 Great Peter Street London SW1P 3NQ 020 7973 6565

Joe.Meaney@artscouncil.org.uk
