has anyone noticed actually WHEN most of the activity is, on this board?
i.e. is it mostly in the morning, or the evening, or the middle of the night (!) according to the board's clock (PT time)?
and what is PT time? i assume MAYBE Pacific Time? if so, WHY? WHO or WHAT is on Pacific time - one or more of the Administrators? (Stuart?)
its more rewarding if you can login when people have had a good chance to respond to your posts, so i thought i'd like to work out when that would be (in my timezone). i seem to be twenty hours ahead of the board's time (i.e. stuart: all you PT people are twenty hours younger than me at any point in time, regardless of whatever your actual ages are!)
all comments appreciated...
[This message has been edited by grace (edited 03-08-2000).]

Well grace, we are distributed here, there and everywhere and so pur postings times are a function of our locations to quite an extent. Her are some indications, with the time difference from London:
London 0
San Francisco -8 (PT, I think it is Pacific time)
Hong Kong +8
NY -5
Thus, I find the most active time for the Board from my point of view is when I get up in the morning when it is late evening in SF.
I tend to post newspaper articles and responses in the morning, so that would be after midnight in SF. Or around now, midnight in London - early afternoon in SF.
We really are a global village.
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited 03-08-2000).]

OK stuart - so YOU find the most active time for the board is late evening San Francisco time: that will be early hours of the previous morning for me, so if i log on in MY morning, there should be some responses.
(but yours weren't there earlier/now they are, so i'll expect to hear from YOU slightly later morning (9 am here now, which seems to be 5pm the night before in SF, and maybe late the night before for YOU. i think we are maybe online at the same time right about now?.
i think i need one of those clocks showing various timezones....
i assume ALL of the times of posts on the board are as at when they are received in SF? so the site is on a server in SF?

grace, we don't really know where the server is but the server's default clock is on US PST. So the time indicated on the bulletin board is the US PST time at the moment you posted your message.

Well, what I meant to say is that more and more service providers outsource their servers. ISP Company A in California may use Networking Services Company B in Ohio that may lease lines from Communications Company C in Texas, run networking software on computers at Network OS Company D in New York whose data storage servers are operated by Company E back in California whose back-up servers are Company F in Florida...

grace, I think you're right, as Stuart's latest stats seem to bear out. I guess most of us have a livelihood to cater to during the week.
