Here in Sarasota, there's a scenic artist (note: that's a set painter) who works for a theater that prefers to spend its money on creature comforts for the administrative staff than on professional-quality supplies for its technicians and craftspeople. As a result of the ridiculously-tight budget, instead of using scenic paint, he's forced to use household paint such as Sherwin-Williams, Bute, etc., and has to considerably thin it down with turpentine.
Recently, we had a big thunderstorm (hopefully ending our drought). The roof over the stage developed a leak and the paint washed right off the scenery-- wiping out about a week's work.
My friend explained to the Artistic Director what had happened (and why). He asked what to do and was told:
REPAINT!! REPAINT!! AND THIN NO MORE!!!!!!
