Oh yeah, well, mine's as done as it's getting until the darn drawings of the facility arrive. (Me, worried that we load in on Saturday?..never)
And neener,neener...I saw the completed dance last night.
I'm on to figuring out how I can implement 6 StudioSpots into next month's show. Anyone got $1,200 they can spare? I gotta have these lights! This piece SCREAMS for these things. I've got artistic images so bad it hurts! I've asked every department here if they've got some spare change kicking around. (yeah, right, we are talking a dance company. Education department reacted somewhat positively, but it seems I would have to teach ALL of the children's dance classes for the next 2 years to get it, as well as wash the education director's car for the next 5 years....and there was some mention of carrying groceries and kissing feet) SO now I'll appeal to the global dance company population. Anyone got a spare budget they're not using this year? Image

No fair; you're in the same city as your dancers.
$200/apiece for Studio Spots seems pretty cheap; how long's the rental period?

------------------
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Jeffrey E. A week rental, and it includes a board and a rep volunteering to babysit to make sure electrician figures it out and we lose no time, as well as shop time pre-programming it and patching, because the house is multi-plexed. (They are smart...they know I've been thinking of using them for awhile, and the rental house also knows that if my first rental of these goes smoothly, I'll be back for more)
I know it's a great deal!

I just thought this was a good thread, so bumping it back up. Anyone new to CD have anything else to add to what should be in the Box?

And Salzberg, re the tampons: go with OB. Anyone can deal with 'em. If they really really really really need 'em, are they going to turn them down? I think not.... Image Plus, they don't take up much room in your box.
Also, keep a pack of stale cigarettes; these are for the dancers/actors who 'don't smoke,' and yet consistently hit on you or others during breaks for cigs. Once they get one of your stale ones, they probably won't want to smoke ever again. This has proven very effective for me over the years.
Also, (this might not be PC, but as Salzberg knows, I am not PC), if you have a director who smokes, keep a pack of their favorite brand in your box but do not let them know about it. You never know when he/she might run out of smokes. It could happen at a very tense period in rehearsals and/or tech. One cigarette on an impromptu break called by the SM can turn back the clock in a sense. Do you want a twelve hour day or a sixteen hour day in tech??
Just talking from my own experiences...
Meredith

Meredith, your advice about the cigs is hysterical - and dead on!
Except you better have a different compartment for the stale ones and the director one!
Image

Two thoughts re: cigarettes:
1. Obviously, you never tried the stale ones or, if you did, they didn't work.
B. Meredith and I worked together at a theatre whose director "stopped smoking" for three months -- but the only thing he really stopped was buying them. It got so that when he'd walk into the office Meredith and I shared, I'd greet him with, "She's not here, Richard. Her cigarettes are in her top right drawer."

Pay attention, Azlan! We're discussing the supplies that stage managers keep backstage.

Elaine, I would further suggest stale and non-filtered Pall Malls for the cast. Doesn't hurt if they might have accidentally gotten 'wet' earlier and had to be dried out,hehe....
And Salzberg is correct re that director. I was going through THREE packs of cigarettes a day for a few months there; of course, I was only responsible for smoking one pack.
