Good to see this important role given some attention for the first time I can remember:

Canvassing support
Susan Elkin for The Stage meets Royal Opera House senior scenic artist Claire Rosette and gets a behind-the-scenes look at a technically demanding and highly strenuous craft

"I love this job and I think I was incredibly lucky to get it," says 31-year-old Claire Rosette. Jeans and T-shirt cheerfully bespattered with paint, she looks every inch an artist and exudes contentment.

We are standing in a colossal aircraft hanger-type unit on a business-like but less than beautiful industrial estate at Hackney Wick in east London. On the floor are three vast canvas cloths which Rosette and her seven colleagues are painting for the forthcoming production of Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House.
