I heard of an incident recently in which a pair of guest dancers had to completely relearn a complex ballet for a Balanchine festival mere days before a performance because there was a huge discrepancy in how the work was to be performed. Thankfully common sense prevailed, as if dancers aren't stressed out to begin with.

Somehow that doesn't surprise me. Having recently experienced two Balachine Ballerinas in the house at the same time, well, like I said, I'm not surprised. I'm sure the man changed things depending on who he had - I mean it's all perfectly understandable - disconcerting, but understandable.
