What do candles, fly buttons, waterfalls, trap doors, elephants and Portsmouth have in common? Not much? In fact they were all part of a fascinating couple of hours I spent last week in Glasgow.
Credit is due to the ABTT’s Archaeology Committee, the Theatres Trust and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, whose public session presented a captivating insight into the history of stage lighting, effects and some of the more unusual technical and social developments which theatre has witnessed.
