Is there life front of house

On stage in many of our theatres is a magical door. It is often found to be locked but on certain occasions a mortal from the gloomy world of backstage can find it open and travel into a new and enchanted world. That is the land of FOH and this week we are venturing into one of its more obscure provinces - that of the Society of Box Office Managers (SOBOM).

Managing the Box Office

When I wrote about life backstage at FOH last month, I discussed the world of the box office. One name recurred during my research, that of Roger Lobb, long-time box office manager at the National and one of the founders of the Society of Box Office Managers. He has witnessed the changes that FOH had seen over the last 40 years.
