Flyman From The Stage
Recently a letter to the editor of this newspaper was published complaining that a visit to the theatre had been spoiled by an actress so drunk that she had been unable to perform properly. Furthermore, the correspondent called for theatre managements to instantly dismiss any artists and technicians who arrived at work “smelling of drink”.
Around the same time, the distinguished character actor Robert Lang sadly passed away. An obituary quoted the autobiography of the late Robert Stephens with whom, together with Colin Blakely, Lang had shared a dressing room when the National Theatre was at the Old Vic.
